HEBER C. KIMBALL
Topics surrounding Heber Chase Kimball (June 14, 1801 - June 22, 1868) (commonly known as Heber C. Kimball) was a leader in the early Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as one of the original twelve apostles in the early Mormon church, and as first counselor to Brigham Young in the presidency of the church from 1847-1868.
| While looking through the journal of discourses, I came across this little gem from HCK in volume 7 in his talk on "sanctification" ;
He says, " It is believed in the world that our females are all common women. Well, in one sense, they are sommon- that is, they are like all other women, I suppose; but they are not unclean, for we wipe all the unclean ones from our midst: we do not only wipe them from our streets, but we wipe them out of existence."
There, that is your warm and fuzzy teaching from an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ today. No doubt he speaks the truth, right?
The Lord calls the most richeous and worthy men to represent Him and teach His doctrine.
Here's what the Lord's Apostle, the father of 14-year-old Smith bride, Heber C. Kimball taught:
"Some quietly listen to those who speak against the plurality of wives, and against almost every principle that God has revealed. Such persons have half-a-dozen devils with them all the time. You might as well deny 'Mormonism,' and turn away from it, as to oppose the plurality of wives. Let the Presidency of this Church, and the Twelve Apostles, and all the authorities unite and say with one voice that they will oppose the doctrine, and the whole of them will be damned."
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 203
"I have noticed that a man who has but one wife, and is inclined to that doctrine, soon begins to wither and dry up, while a man who goes into plurality [of wives] looks fresh, young, and sprightly."
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses Vol 5, page 22
"I think no more of taking another wife than I do of buying a cow."
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, The Twenty Seventh Wife, Irving Wallace, p. 101.
Speaking to a group of departing missionaries...
"Brethren, I want you to understand that it is not to be as it has been heretofore. The brother missionaries have been in the habit of picking out the prettiest women for themselves before they get here, and bringing on the ugly ones for us; hereafter you have to bring them all here before taking any of them, and let us all have a fair shake."
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, The Lion of the Lord, New York, 1969, pp.129-30.
"I say to those who are elected to go on missions, remember they are not your sheep: they belong to Him that sends you. Then do not make a choice of any of those sheep; do not make selections before they are brought home and put into the fold. You under stand that. Amen"
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.256.
| I'm sorry, but Heber was an ass. That's just the only word that works.
I'm reading Mary Ellen Kimball's journal right now. I don't know why it is so interesting to me. It's really sad how empty and horrible this lady's life was because of Mormonism, and yet she was never able to see that it was all a lie. She was never able to see that Mormonism was ruining her life. She was one of Heber's 45 wives. She always loved children, but wasn't able to conceive a child until she was 40. I keep leaving the journal at home, but I keep wanting to quote a blessing in it. I'll eventually remember to bring it to give you an exact quote, but I can at least paraphrase. Heber gives her a blessing when she's pregnant and blesses the baby to have the positive attributes of its father(himself). I can't remember the exact quality. I think it was something like the strength or power of its father. Then he blesses the baby NOT to have the "despondent" spirit of its mother. What an A-hole! Mary Ellen never even blinks an eye. She just records this blessing like it's just totally wonderful. Then when her baby dies at a year and a half old, she blames herself, saying that she wasn't righteous enough. She knows she could've been more righteous in order to deserve for her child to live. She seems to mourn alone, also. There's very little mention of Heber taking any interest in the death of his child.
Then she eventually dies a lonely, faithful old lady. It's one thing to see these long lists of faceless names attached to a polygamist husband. It's another thing to put a face and a soul to one of those names. I guess it's her own fault for being so blindly faithful, but this religion has caused endless suffering right from the beginning. And its own members just blame themselves.
I don't know if I counted right, but it is over 40 wives.
You know how I found his record? I looked at JS' wives and saw that one of them was later married to HCK. Spouse: Sarah SCOTT (AFN: 1Z2L-ST).
It gets better.
One of Joseph's wives, Desdemona Wadsworth FULLMER (AFN: 2S9J-LX) was later married to Ezra Taft BENSON (AFN: 27BH-TX), who had 6 wives.
Another of Joseph's wives, Sylvia Porter SESSIONS (AFN: 1H4D-3M) was also married to HCK.
Another JS wife Lucy WALKER (AFN: 3FNF-72)was married to HCK before she was married to JS.
Pardon the expression, but it seems like these guys traded wives like playing cards.
Rhoda RICHARDS (AFN: 1F72-5R) went from JS to Brigham Young.
Eliza Roxey SNOW (AFN: 272Q-KP) went from JS to BY as well.
HCK and JS were both married to Sarah Ann WHITNEY (AFN: 3LTZ-0W).
Martha MCBRIDE (AFN: 1JJW-V0) was married to Vinson Knight, then JS, then HCK.
Prescendia Lathrop HUNTINGTON (AFN: 1RBQ-97) was married to Norman Buell, JS, then HCK.
It just goes on and on and on.
Dig a bit further, and you find that many of the men who were married to the wives of BY an JS were only married once. Mopologists will try to tell us that these women married BY or JS because their husbands died.
Then you find that the husband of Margaret Worrell MCMINN (AFN: 5970-KF), Lucuis Lyman JOHNSON (AFN: 5970-J8), died 20 Feb 1873, but Margaret married HCK Abt Feb 1846. Lucuis was still alive for 27 more years.
Cordelia Calista MORLEY (AFN: 1CP9-HR) was originally married to Frederick Walter COX (AFN: BJM8-J8) who did not pass away until 5 Jun 1879. If JS died 27 Jun 1844, he must have married her way before he husband died.
This is way too much for me. How can I ever believe anything but these guys (Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and cronies) were just a bunch of horny guys. The only God-given mandate they were carrying out was the desire to reproduce. And in them, it seems to have run wild. They were cunning enough to fool many people for years. Fool them into giving up their daughters, wives, and their money. They were con men. It's obvious. What more proof do you need?
Editor Note From Infymus: You guys need to start screen capturing these. Very soon the LDS Corporation is going to go through and sanitize all of these. Within a few years, the current history books and websites of LDS Inc. will not have one single hint of polygamy.
| As I've been checking through family genealogies, I noticed right off the bat that HCK's mother was named Anna Spaulding. His father was Solomon Farnham Kimball. There are quite a few close family members who carry the Spaulding name, typically as a middle name.
Today I found this: (likely not news to all of you,but it was news to me):
"iii. ANNA SPALDING, b. about 1770, Plainfield, Windham, CT; d. February 25, 1825, Mendon, Monroe, NY; m. SOLOMON FARNHAM KIMBALL (1770-1825), April 19, 1795, Plainfield, Sullivan, NH; he died July 9, 1825, Mendon, Monroe, NY.
note 1: The genealogy of ANNA SPALDING (c. 1770-1825) is slightly in doubt. Although nearly all reliable sources record her father as being CHARLES SPALDING (1735-1807), a few others list her father's name as "SPEEDY SPAULDING," a name not otherwise encountered in published Spalding -- Spaulding genealogies.
note 2: ANNA SPALDING, the mother of HEBER CHASE KIMBALL (1801-1868) was the a contemporary and distant cousin to would-be author SOLOMON SPALDING (1761-1816); the great grandfathers of ANNA and SOLOMON's parents (CHARLES5, PHILIP4, EDWARD3, JOHN2) and (JOSIAH5, EPHRAIM4 , EDWARD3, BENJAMIN2) were the two brothers JOHN2 and BENJAMIN2). Since the mother of Heber Kimbal and the writer of the Oberlin Spalding MS were both Spalding family "cousins," growing up in Windham Co., CT at the same time, there is a slight possibility that ANNA and SOLOMON knew each other.
